Leagues, cups and friendlies, each with its own rules

Every match knows which competition it belongs to. A league has matchdays and standings, a cup settles a tie with extra time and penalties, and a friendly has no round.

Managing competitions and standings is free. Showing them in OBS is a Studio feature.

Competition types

Three types of competition

Each team has its own competitions for each season, with a name, season, group and logo. The type decides how each match behaves.

League: matchdays and standings

Each match belongs to a matchday and can end in a draw. You can keep the league standings, and you confirm them.

  • Matchdays
  • Standings
  • Can end in a draw

Cup: named rounds

Final, Semifinal, Quarter-finals, Round of 16, Round of 32 or any text you want. If it’s a draw, it goes to extra time and penalties by default. Cups have no table.

  • Rounds
  • Extra time
  • Penalties

Friendly: no round

A one-off match: it has no matchday or round and can end in a draw.

  • No round
  • Can end in a draw

The tie-break is configurable

Each type comes with its own default rule, and you change it match by match in the Format step. There are three.

  • Can end in a draw
  • Extra time and penalties
  • Straight to penalties

    Penalty shoot-out, kick by kick

Each kick is logged on your phone and the panel updates by itself: five kicks each and, if it’s still tied, sudden death. When it ends, the winner appears, and the final result includes the shoot-out.

    • Kicks, corrections and undo from the live match control.
    • With or without extra time: in a cup it goes to extra time and penalties by default, and you can also go straight to penalties.
    • On every plan, in the control and in the OBS graphics.

  2. FULL-TIME · PROVISIONAL
Provisional standings at full time, with positions pending review
    League standings

    You confirm the standings

OBSfootball does not calculate the table on its own. You enter it, it stays as a draft and, once you confirm it, it becomes the official one: the graphics and the club page only use the latest confirmed table.

    • Draft and confirmed: saving a draft changes nothing on screen until you confirm.
    • Applying a result is your decision: you see the table before and after, and positions stay “pending” until you review them.
    • 3, 1 and 0 points by default for a win, a draw and a loss, and an adjustment column to add or subtract points by hand.
    • Leagues only: cups have no table.

Managing the standings is free on every plan. Showing them in OBS is a Studio feature.

  3. OBS · PRE-MATCH · STANDINGS
Regional League standings in the pre-match, with Ribera FC in third place
    Available with Studio

The season, in the pre-match and at full time

With Studio, the season panels appear alongside the match card and the line-ups: standings, head to head against your opponent, recent results and season record in the pre-match; provisional standings, season record and upcoming matches at full time.

    • Head to head and season record come from recorded results: those from OBSfootball, once you confirm the full-time result, and earlier ones you add by hand.
    • They rotate by themselves every 15 seconds with the rest of the pre-match screens, or you pin the one you want.
    • You choose what shows in each match, in the Graphics step.

The standings, as an image ready to post

With Studio, the standings and the rest of the season each have an image template, with suggested text and a description for screen readers.

    • Five season templates: league table, head to head, season balance, recent results and next matches.
    • In Spanish or English, with up to four sponsors per image.

  5. Match format

    Timing and tie-break, your way

Each half can last from 1 to 60 minutes, with shortcuts for 45, 40, 35 and 30. Extra time runs from 1 to 30 minutes per half, 15 by default. And the tie-break is one of three rules: can end in a draw, extra time and penalties, or straight to penalties.

    • Each team keeps its default length, and you change it for a specific match.
    • The format creates the phases in the control: live, you move from one to the next with a tap.
    • It locks when you start production or confirm the result.

Questions about competitions

What people often ask us

Does it calculate the standings by itself?

No. The club enters and confirms the standings. When you apply the result of a league match you see the table before and after, and you decide whether to save it. Until you confirm, the graphics and the club page keep using the latest confirmed table.

Does it work for two-legged ties?

Each match is independent. OBSfootball does not draw knockout brackets or calculate an aggregate result across two matches: each one has its own result and its own round.

Can I show the standings in OBS on any plan?

No. Managing competitions and standings is free on every plan, and the club page shows the confirmed standings. Showing them in OBS is a Studio feature, as are head to head, recent results, the season record and upcoming matches.

What happens if a cup match ends in a draw?

By default, a cup match goes to extra time and, if it’s still tied, to penalties. You can change it for each match: it can end in a draw, go to extra time and penalties, or go straight to penalties. The format locks when you start production or confirm the result.

Can I change the length of the halves?

Yes. Each half can last from 1 to 60 minutes, with shortcuts for 45, 40, 35 and 30, and extra time from 1 to 30 minutes per half, 15 by default. You set it in the match’s Format step.
